In Angelic Reiki, an attunement is described as a spiritual initiation: a change in consciousness that connects the participant to the Angelic Kingdom and to a personal Healing Angel. It is not a certificate, a qualification or a medical procedure. The official lineage says the attunement is given by the Angels rather than by the human teacher, and that it happens in person, in a group workshop.
These are the lineage's claims. Different Angelic Reiki organisations describe the ritual in different levels of detail, so what follows sets out the official descriptions, the practical shape of the workshops, and the points where claims compete.
What an Attunement Is Said to Be
The Angelic Reiki Association describes an attunement simply as "a change in consciousness." Its article on the subject says that when we are born, consciousness rests in the vibration of Divine Love, and that life's experiences affect that consciousness. An attunement is presented as a way of restoring or reconnecting to that original state (Angelic Reiki Association).
The founders' official site describes the attunements as connecting each student with Healing Angels who work with them from then on, and as attuning the Reiki symbols through the angelic vibration. The teacher's role is to hold the space, not to transmit the energy through their own body or consciousness.
Participants report a range of experiences: warmth, emotion, stillness, nothing at all, or something unexpected. None of those is treated here as proof of an attunement, and their absence is not a failure.
Who Gives the Attunement?
In the official account, the teacher does not give the attunement. The Angelic Kingdom does, through the participant's own Healing Angel. The teacher opens a space and holds it; the Angels are said to anchor the symbols and the connection.
The founders' site makes this a defining difference from Usui Reiki: the teacher does not perform the attunement, and the energy is said to come directly from the Angels rather than through the teacher. It describes each attunement as given anew, so there is no human lineage (Angelic Reiki International).
The framework shapes the ritual: the teacher's authority is understood as the authority to hold a space, not to confer the connection.
What Happens at Levels 1 and 2
The official Level 1 and 2 workshop is taught over two and a half days by the association, or over a comparable in-person group format by the founders' organisation. It includes:
- A complete karma cutting and angelic clearing before each attunement.
- Two cleanses and attunements, one for the 1st degree and one for the 2nd degree.
- An Archangelic initiation and blessing, described as an attunement to the Angelic Kingdom of Light at the 11th dimension through Archangel Metatron and the Mighty Sarim.
- Activation of the Reiki symbols to their angelic vibration, and by Lord Melchizedek to their galactic vibration.
- An attunement to the Master Crystal, which is said to hold the angelic codes of healing.
- Practical healing exchanges, so participants can experience giving and receiving.
- Guidance on self-healing, distance healing, crystals and essences. The workshop also discusses pregnant women, children and animals in the system's own terms.
The association's description adds that the seven symbols given at this level are activated through the seven levels of form and divine form by Archangel Metatron, and that the attunement connects the participant to the Angelic Kingdom at the 11th dimension. These are detailed ritual claims.
The official Level 1 and 2 workshop does not include a professional qualification. The founders' site describes it as suited to personal practice and to supporting family and friends. Professional practice is a later workshop.
What Happens at Levels 3 and 4
The Master levels are a separate workshop, usually three days. The official syllabus includes:
- Cleansing and attunement to the 3rd degree.
- Cleansing, entity release and attunement to the 4th degree.
- An Angelic Ray Attunement.
- A Masters Archangelic Initiation.
- Further healing exchanges, including the Eye Healing and work with Soul Group energies.
- Instruction in holding the workshop space and, for those who continue, preparation for teaching.
The founders' site is careful about the word "Master." It says the 3 and 4 workshop is "not the teacher qualification" and that a Master attunement is "not a qualification to teach." It is described as an invitation to self-mastery and personal development, not a licence to practise professionally or to teach.
The association's Level 3 and 4 workshop has a similar purpose but a different syllabus and a different organisational lineage. It describes 13 symbols activated to the angelic level, an attunement to the 3rd and 4th degrees, and advice on teaching. A prospective student should compare the two descriptions rather than assume they are identical.
Preparing for a Workshop
The official site asks participants to discuss any use of medication, recreational drugs or medicinal drugs with the teacher before enrolling. That is a reasonable safeguard rather than a moral test.
Practical preparation is ordinary:
- Read the workshop description and ask which lineage and organisation the teacher belongs to.
- Ask whether the workshop is in person, how many participants there will be, and what the days will contain.
- Tell the teacher about any accessibility needs, sensory sensitivities or health concerns that might affect your comfort.
- Arrange transport and rest afterwards; the days can be long and emotionally stimulating.
- Eat and sleep normally. There is no need to fast, cleanse or abstain in order to receive an attunement.
You do not need to believe anything specific to attend. Curiosity and a willingness to participate are enough. If you feel pressured to accept a claim, or to disclose more than you are comfortable sharing, you can pause.
After the Attunement
The official literature describes a range of possible experiences: warmth, emotional release, vivid dreams, tiredness, or a sense of connection. It also says the effects may be subtle and noticed only in retrospect. Those are reported experiences rather than promises.
A sensible aftercare plan is unremarkable:
- Drink water, eat something, and rest if you feel tired.
- Avoid making major decisions on the day of an intense experience.
- Write down what you noticed, without turning it into a verdict on your spiritual progress.
- Keep up ordinary routines and contact with people who know you well.
- If you feel unwell or distressed, seek appropriate support rather than trying to interpret it as a cleansing reaction.
Some teachers offer follow-up calls or practice groups. Those can be useful, especially if you are new to the system.
Distance Attunement and the Official Line
The founders' site and the association both say that Angelic Reiki attunements are given in person and that there are no distance attunements. The founders' FAQ says remote or one-to-one attunement is not possible in its system. The association's workshop page says the same.
Some independent teachers advertise distance Angelic Reiki attunements. They may be sincere, and they may have their own lineage or their own interpretation. But they are not recognised by the two main official bodies, and a buyer should not assume that a distance attunement carries the same authority or content as an in-person workshop. If a teacher claims to be official while offering distance attunement, ask which organisation recognises them and check that organisation's published requirements.
The useful question is not which organisation owns the name, but what exactly is being offered and whether the teacher represents it honestly.
What an Attunement Does Not Promise
An attunement is not:
- A certificate. Certificates are separate documents, and their meaning depends on the issuing organisation.
- A professional qualification. The official Level 1 and 2 workshop explicitly does not include one.
- A promise of spiritual powers. The tradition may describe gifts or sensitivities, but it does not promise reliable clairvoyance, healing ability or enlightenment.
- A cure or medical treatment. The official site uses healing in the traditional sense of passing energy.
- A substitute for practice. An attunement may mark a beginning; it does not replace experience, supervision or ethical judgement.
The NCCIH's general review of Reiki notes that the practice has not been clearly shown to be effective for any health-related purpose and that there is no scientific evidence for the energy field said to underlie it. That does not tell you whether an attunement will feel meaningful, but it does mean no one should present it as a medical intervention (NCCIH).
Choosing an Attunement Teacher
The quality of the workshop depends heavily on the teacher. Good questions to ask:
- Which organisation trained you, and when?
- What level did you complete, and was it in person?
- Are you listed as a teacher by the organisation you name?
- What is your policy on consent, touch and medical claims?
- How do you handle a participant who becomes upset or unwell during a workshop?
- What does the fee include, and what is your refund policy?
- Do you present the attunement as a spiritual event rather than a health treatment?
A teacher who welcomes these questions, gives clear answers and respects your autonomy is a better guide than one who relies on mystery or urgency. A teacher who promises results, diagnoses illness or discourages ordinary care is a reason to walk away.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Angelic Reiki attunement?
It is a spiritual initiation in the Angelic Reiki system, described as a change in consciousness and a connection to the Angelic Kingdom and a personal Healing Angel. It is given in person, in a group workshop, according to the official lineage.
Who performs the attunement?
The official teaching says the Angels perform it, not the human teacher. The teacher holds the space and facilitates the ritual. Other Reiki systems usually understand the attunement as passing through the human teacher's lineage.
Does it hurt?
It should not. The workshop may involve touch or near-touch, but it should be gentle and consensual. If anything is uncomfortable, you can ask the teacher to stop or adjust. Emotional intensity is possible, but pain is not a requirement.
Can I receive an Angelic Reiki attunement online?
The official founders' organisation and the Angelic Reiki Association both say no: their attunements are in person and they do not recognise distance attunement. Some independent teachers offer distance attunement, but that is outside the official lineage.
How long does an attunement take?
At Level 1 and 2, the workshop is usually two and a half days and includes two cleanses and attunements, an Archangelic initiation and practice sessions. The attunement itself is only part of the workshop; the teaching and practice around it matter too.
Can I receive it more than once?
Yes, in the sense that people can attend workshops more than once or receive further attunements at different levels. Whether a repeat is useful is a personal question. The official system does not teach that an attunement "wears off."
Where to Go Next

An attunement can be a meaningful marker in a spiritual life. It is not a shortcut to certainty, status or health. The most useful thing you can bring to it is the same thing you bring to any serious practice: attention, honesty and the freedom to ask questions.
