Angelic Reiki: A Modern Angelic Healing System

An introduction to Angelic Reiki: its founders, official history, distinctive attunements, workshops and the difference from Usui Reiki and Reiki Angels.

Angelic Reiki is a modern spiritual healing system that combines Reiki symbols with an explicitly angelic framework. Its official history dates its emergence to 2002–2003 in England, where Kevin Core and Christine Core developed it from their earlier work in Usui Reiki, Shamballa Reiki and Merkabah practice. In the system's own account, the work was guided by Archangel Metatron and the Ascended Master Djwhal Khul, and the attunements are given by the Angelic Kingdom rather than by the human teacher.

These are the lineage's claims. Angelic Reiki is a named modern system, distinct from the older Reiki Angels archive discussed below.

What Angelic Reiki Is

In practice, Angelic Reiki is taught through in-person workshops and practised through hands-on or hands-off sessions. The practitioner is described as a "bridge" rather than the source of the energy. The system's official literature says the healer does not need to remember symbols, visualise energy or move through a series of hand positions; the Angels are said to direct the healing.

The founders' official website describes the purpose as re-awakening a knowing of the Divine Self through love and learning to work with angels. It also says the word healing is used in its traditional sense of passing energy, and that Angelic Reiki makes no claims of cure (Angelic Reiki International).

That distinction matters. Many people find the sessions calming, meaningful or spiritually supportive. Those are reported experiences, not evidence that the practice is a medical treatment. The NCCIH's general review of Reiki notes that it has not been clearly shown to be effective for any health-related purpose, and that there is no scientific evidence for the energy field said to underlie it (NCCIH).

Where the System Comes From

The founders' own chronology is unusually detailed, and it is the best starting point for understanding the system's self-understanding. Christine Core's "Brief History" gives these milestones:

  • 1987–1990s: Christine trains as a homeopath, runs a healing centre, and receives Usui and Shamballa Reiki master attunements. Kevin works as an engineer and sees healing clients in the evenings.
  • 1996–2002: They meet, share healing exchanges, run meditation and speaker groups in Yorkshire, and study Merkabah and related esoteric material.
  • 2001–2002: Christine travels; Kevin continues the groups and, in his account, is guided to gather material for a new healing system.
  • 2002–2003: Kevin teaches the first Angelic Reiki workshops, including a workshop in Kuala Lumpur. A first Masters workshop follows. The founders' own pages disagree on its date: the Brief History says November 2003, while the same site's copyright page says November 2002.
  • 2004 onward: The system spreads internationally; manuals and a book are developed. Christine describes the system as continually deepening rather than fixed in its 2003 form.
  • 2 June 2009: Kevin Core dies. Christine continues teaching and developing the work.

The association summarises the origin as born in 2002, with Kevin and Christine working together for seven years on the principles that became Angelic Reiki. It says the system draws on the Usui and Shamballa lineages and combines them with transmissions channelled by Kevin Core (Angelic Reiki Association).

The claim that the system was channelled from Archangel Metatron is a statement of faith within the lineage. What can be documented is that Kevin and Christine Core created and taught a system called Angelic Reiki, that it has an official literature and a network of teachers, and that different organisations now disagree about who carries its authentic form.

The Founders and the Metatron Attribution

The founders' official site says Angelic Reiki was created through guidance from the Master Djwhal Khul and Archangel Metatron, and that Kevin and Christine wove together a system of healing from their knowledge of spiritual principles and ancient teachings. Christine Core describes Kevin as the channel through whom the material came, while also describing the work as a joint creation that she grounded and later continued.

Archangel Metatron is central to the system's story. In the official workshop descriptions:

  • The Reiki symbols are activated to angelic level through the seven levels of form and divine form by Archangel Metatron.
  • The Level 1 and 2 attunement includes a connection to the Angelic Kingdom of Light at the eleventh dimension through Archangel Metatron and the Mighty Sarim.
  • The Master levels include further Metatronic activations and an Angelic Ray Attunement.

These are the system's own claims about what happens in its rituals. For a fuller treatment of the historical Metatron and the different ways he is portrayed, see Archangel Metatron and Angelic Reiki.

What Makes It Distinctive

Angelic Reiki is often compared with Usui Reiki, but the differences are specific rather than vague. In the official account:

  • The teacher does not perform the attunement. The Angels are said to give it, with the teacher holding the space.
  • There is said to be no human lineage. Each attunement is described as given anew by the Angelic Kingdom, rather than passed through a human chain of teachers.
  • The symbols are not taught in the usual way. Students are not required to draw or visualise the symbols; the symbols are said to be integrated through sacred geometry and activated at angelic, galactic and universal levels.
  • The session has one basic hand position. The practitioner's left hand is placed on the recipient's higher heart and the right hand on the solar plexus, creating a link to the soul self. The practitioner does not move through a sequence of positions.
  • The healer is passive. The practitioner does not chant, visualise or direct energy; the Angels are said to be responsible for the healing.
  • The workshops are group-based and in person. The Angelic Reiki Association states that Angelic Reiki "is not taught one to one" and that "there are no distance attunements."

Some of these differences are practical, and some are theological. A person can find the group format and the quiet, hands-off style appealing without accepting the metaphysical claims. It is also possible to be a committed Reiki practitioner in another system and find Angelic Reiki's language of angels unfamiliar or unnecessary. Neither response is a failure.

The Workshops and Levels

The official international system describes four separate workshops, plus a nine-day full-syllabus option. The structure matters because "Angelic Reiki Master" does not automatically mean "Angelic Reiki teacher."

Workshop Purpose Main prerequisite
Angelic Reiki Levels 1 and 2 Personal healing, self-practice and healing for family and friends; includes the 1st and 2nd degree attunements None; open to beginners
Angelic Reiki Levels 3 and 4 Master energy and personal development; includes the 3rd and 4th degree attunements A valid Level 1 and 2 certificate from a registered teacher
Professional Practitioner Further healings, attunements and professional-practice training, with case studies Levels 1 and 2 and 3 and 4
Master Teacher Preparation for teaching Angelic Reiki, if the participant wishes to teach Professional Practitioner plus approved case studies

The official site is explicit that the 3 and 4 workshop is not the teacher qualification and that a Master attunement is not a qualification to teach. It describes the workshop as an invitation to self-mastery, not a teaching licence.

The Angelic Reiki Association, a separate organisation, presents a different structure: a Level 1 and 2 practitioner workshop taught over two and a half days, a Level 3 and 4 master workshop taught over three days, and a separate Metatron Methods workshop. It says the system is taught in person, not one-to-one, and that there are no distance attunements. Its course content overlaps with the founders' descriptions but is not identical.

For a detailed comparison of the levels, prerequisites and the nine-day route, see Angelic Reiki Levels.

What a Session Looks Like

The official description of a treatment is simple. The client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places the left hand on the higher heart and the right hand on the solar plexus, whether the client is sitting or lying down. The session usually lasts about an hour and is often accompanied by music. The practitioner holds an unconditional space and does not diagnose, direct energy or move through a sequence of hand positions.

The official site describes the result in terms of relaxation, connection and a sense of blessing rather than medical outcomes. It says a session may be experienced as physical relaxation, emotional release or a deeper acceptance of how life is. Those are possibilities reported within the tradition, not promises. A person who feels nothing, or who simply enjoys an hour of quiet, has not failed at Angelic Reiki.

Some practitioners use crystals, flower remedies or other tools. The official site mentions these as optional supports, not requirements. If a practitioner makes a medical claim, pressures you to stop ordinary care, or asks you to accept a diagnosis on the basis of a session, that is a reason to pause and reconsider.

What Angelic Reiki Is Not

It is not Usui Reiki. The two systems share symbols and a Reiki vocabulary, but Angelic Reiki has its own founders, attunement theology and workshop structure. For a side-by-side comparison, see Angelic Reiki vs Usui Reiki.

It is not the historical Reiki Angels archive. The pages under Reiki Angels come from a different, older web estate and use angel imagery in a different way. They do not describe the Core lineage, its workshops or its attunements.

It is not a medical treatment. The NCCIH's general Reiki review finds no clear evidence that Reiki is effective for health-related purposes.

It is not a distance-attunement system in its official form. The founders and the association both say the attunements are given in person. Some independent teachers advertise distance Angelic Reiki attunements; those are not recognised by the official bodies. That does not make them illegal or necessarily dishonest, but it does mean the buyer should understand which lineage and which claims they are accepting.

Two Organisations and a Disputed Name

The name "Angelic Reiki" is used by more than one organisation, and the disagreement is part of the system's modern history. The founders' official site says that after Kevin's death in 2009, Christine developed a charter to set standards for teachers. It says some teachers disagreed and set up an Angelic Reiki Association without consultation with her, claiming to teach as Kevin intended and as written in the original manuals.

The Angelic Reiki Association, for its part, describes itself as the only international organisation offering the original format channelled by Archangel Metatron through Kevin Core (Angelic Reiki Association). It also says its UK practitioners and master teachers are members of the British Complementary Medicine Association, and that the association is a member association of the BCMA.

The founders' site says the association's account is not the authentic lineage; the association says it preserves the original format. A prospective student can read each organisation's description, ask which lineage a teacher was trained in, and check whether the workshop structure and attunement practice match what is being advertised.

How to Evaluate a Teacher

Because Angelic Reiki is taught through workshops, the teacher matters. Some practical questions:

  • Which organisation trained you, and in what year?
  • Which level did you complete, and was it in person?
  • Do you hold a current certificate or membership, and with whom?
  • What is your policy on consent, touch and medical claims?
  • How do you handle a participant who becomes distressed during a workshop?
  • Do you present the attunements as spiritual events rather than medical treatments?
  • What is your refund and cancellation policy?

A good teacher will answer these questions without defensiveness. A teacher who promises spiritual powers, diagnoses illness, or discourages ordinary medical care is not a safe guide, whatever their lineage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Angelic Reiki the same as Reiki?

No. It is a distinct modern system with its own founders, attunements and workshop structure. It uses Reiki symbols and draws on Usui and Shamballa lineages, but it is not simply another name for Usui Reiki.

Who founded Angelic Reiki?

The official lineage credits Kevin Core and Christine Core. The founders' site says the system was created through guidance from Master Djwhal Khul and Archangel Metatron, and Christine Core describes Kevin as the channel through which the material came. The system's emergence is dated to 2002–2003.

Is Angelic Reiki a religion?

It is a spiritual practice with a distinct cosmology, but it is not a religion in the sense of a church with a single doctrine and membership. Different teachers and organisations vary in how explicitly they frame the angelic material. See Is Reiki a Religion? for the wider question.

Can I learn Angelic Reiki from a book or online?

The official bodies say no: the attunements are given in person, in a group workshop. You can read about the system, but the official lineage does not recognise self-attunement or distance attunement. Some independent teachers disagree; that is a lineage dispute rather than a settled fact.

Can Angelic Reiki replace medical care?

No. The official founders' site explicitly says it makes no claims of cure and uses "healing" in the traditional sense of passing energy. It is not a substitute for medical or psychological care.

Where to Go Next

If you want the full picture of the system, read Angelic Reiki vs Usui Reiki, Angelic Reiki Attunement, Angelic Reiki Levels and Archangel Metatron and Angelic Reiki. For the broader question of angelic practice, see Angel Healing vs Reiki. The angels hub collects the related pages, while Reiki Angels remains a separate historical archive.

Angelic Reiki is best approached with two things at once: an openness to its spiritual language and a clear-eyed awareness that the language is a named tradition, not a medical promise. That combination makes room for genuine experience without asking anyone to surrender their judgment.
