The Microcosmic OrbitMicrocosmic Orbit Meditation

A thorough understanding of the microcosmic orbit technique is critical for its historical context in Chinese alchemy and because it is at the heart of numerous Taoist forms of exercise practiced by many millions of people worldwide today. This time, we will learn how to do the microcosmic orbit meditation.

The Microcosmic Orbit

The microcosmic orbit, alternatively known as the Law's Self-Winding Wheel, is a Taoist Qigong energy cultivation technique. It entails deep breathing exercises combined with meditation and concentration techniques that facilitate the flow of qi along specific energy pathways in the human body. These pathways may be familiar to students of traditional Chinese medicine, Qigong, T'ai chi ch'uan, Neidan, and Chinese alchemy. The exercise is typically performed in a sitting position, but it can also be performed standing, as in Zhan Zhuang, or with the addition of movements, as in T'ai chi ch'uan.

Microcosmic Orbit Meditation

Part 1

  • Begin by assuming a seated position with your feet flat on the floor. Additionally, you can enhance this meditation by placing one of the Antahkarana symbols beneath your feet. Select the one you feel compelled to use.
  • On your hands, draw the UDKM or the TDKM, or both, and place them on your legs, intending for these energies to flow throughout the meditation.
  • Offer a prayer of gratitude to a Higher Power or enlightened being for the healing and increased consciousness you are receiving.
  • Maintain a steady image of CKR on the solar plexus chakra. If thoughts arise, brush them aside gently and return your attention to the image of CKR. By maintaining this image in your mind, you can train your mind to be calm, steady, and powerful. Chakras will be opened, cleansed, and healed. Maintain this image for 2-5 minutes.
  • Then, with your attention directed downward, repeat step 4 for the sacral chakra. Continue this process for each chakra, beginning at the root and working your way up the spine to the heart chakra.
  • As you go through this process, you may notice that each chakra point has a unique sensation. You may experience heat or coolness, see images or colors, and so forth. These are signs that healing or releasing is occurring. The critical point is to avoid distractions and maintain a steady hold on the image.

Part 2

  • After completing part one, gently contract the Hui Yin by placing your tongue on the roof of your mouth.
  • Visualize a lovely ball of white light at the center of your solar plexus.
  • Then visualize the ball of white light moving downward to the sacral chakra, then upward to the root chakra, then up the spine through the backsides of each chakra to the crown, then down through the tongue out the front. Consider this ball of light circling and circling the energy pathway. The flow is always downward and upward.
  • For ten minutes or more, visualize the ball of light traveling around the energy pathway.

When you are ready to conclude the meditation, visualize the energy continuing to flow through the pathway. Then, both the tongue and the Hui Yin point should be released. Inhale deeply and open your eyes. Enjoy!

Guided Meditation To Help Heal The Shadow Self Can Change Your Life

The shadow self refers to the aspects of ourselves that have been repressed into the unconscious — the aspects of ourselves that we are insecure about, ashamed of, or frustrated with. The shadow self-concept is based on the idea that we metaphorically bury those aspects of our personalities that we fear will not be accepted, accepted, or loved by others; thus, we keep them in the shadows.
